Stroke to be predicted by eyes
It is possible to predict possibility of stroke by changing and damage of blood vessels in patient`s eyes. This conclusion was made by doctor Paul Mitchell and his colleagues from Sidney University.
3654 Australians at the age of 49 years and older participated in investigation. To reveal damages of vessels or retinopathy patient`s retina was photographed periodically.
Researchers observed participants of experiment during 7 years registering strokes and causes of death.
They found out that people with retina degeneration have 70% of possibility to "meet" with stroke. Scientists also took into account traditional factors of risk such as smoking and high blood pressure.
"Blood vessels in eyes have similar anatomic peculiarities as ones in brain, - explained doctor Mitchell. - It is necessary to carry out more experiments in support of our results but we can suppose that rather simple procedure can predict possibility of stroke in several years.
