Muscovites saw off winter with traditional Shrovetide procession
Solemn procession devoted to winter seeing off and Pancake week end passed along central streets of Moscow on Sunday.
The procession was headed by a girl, who was symbolizing spring and riding on an oven. People were carrying yellow balloons and transparencies with slogans "Spring, come in the beginning of March!", "Winter, keep your hands off Moscow!" and others. The automobile traffic was stopped along the route of procession for about 1,5 hours.
The carnival started on Triumph square with participation of several hundred people. The number of participants increased as column was moving along Moscow streets and thousands of people reached the final destination - Vasilevsky spusk.
As it gets dark the organizers of the holiday promise colorful show with burning of Shrovetide scarecrow erected on Manezh square.
