Scientists have named the exact time of extinction of Neanderthals

International scientists for the first time with high accuracy dated artifacts from 40 archaeological sites in Eurasia from Spain to Russia) and learned that the Neanderthals disappeared about 40 thousand years ago.

But modern people are not just killed their neighbors on the continent: several 1000-year populations of Neanderthals and CRO-magnons lived side by side, exchanging genes and skills. The study presented in the journal Nature.

Traditional methods of Dating using radiocarbon method gave unclear results, because in the samples whose age exceeds 50 thousand years, remains little carbon-14. Better design helped to qualify that the Mousterian culture (cultural-technological ensemble of middle Paleolithic associated with late Neanderthals) across Eurasia disappears between 41 and 39 thousand years ago.

In addition, chatelperronian culture (which also consider transition and is associated with Neanderthals) disappears in the same period. The Dating of the earliest archaeological culture, undoubtedly associated with anatomically modern humans (luczycki) allowed to establish how much time the Neanderthals and the CRO-magnons "crossed"from 2600 up to 5400 years, according to various estimates. This time was more than enough for cultural and probably genetic exchange between the 2 groups hominin.
