Russia lost five places in competitiveness rating
In Geneva was published a prepared by Worldwide economic forum report about the competitiveness of different countries - Global Competitiveness Report.
Being for two years on a 70-th place in the world this time Russia was only on 75-th.
The countries are judged by formal characteristics which can be taken from statistics sources and also by survey of industrialists from all countries. Countries are estimated by a large amount of characteristics from which in Worldwide economic forum opinion depends competitiveness: macroeconomic stability, quality of society institutes, technical development. Especially important is macroeconomic stability - supposedly, it is impossible to produce qualified goods and show high rates of growth living beyond one?s needs and following the wrong currency politics.
The first place for the fourth time during the last five years was given to Finland because of its progressive technology (only USA is ahead), good macroeconomic stability (better is only in Singapore, Norway and Denmark), and also because of the trust to the society institutes (the better situation is only in New Zealand, Denmark, Iceland and Singapore), as "Commercant" notices. In general all north European countries are complimented every year for the absence of budget deficit, very low level of corruption, undoubted respect to contracts and power of the law and private sector is influenced by technical innovations.
Russia two years in a row was on the 70-th place. Last year just before Russia were Indonesia and Ghana, and just beyond were Algeria and Dominican Republic. This year such stability has ended - Russia is only on 75-th place (letting Indonesia and Panama ahead, but leaving Morocco and Philippines behind). Russia took 73-th place by the level of technology development (better than Columbia, but worse than Venezuela). The macroeconomic characteristics showed better result - 53-th place (between Salvador and Mauritius). Even a high budget proficit didn?t help to improve the situation - a bad role played a high level of inflation and the doubt of report authors that collected by taxes money are not plundered. At last by the level of society institutes development Russia was given only 91-th place remaining behind Ukraine and passing ahead of Mozambique. In general according to the report Russia is almost twice less competitive than Finland having competitive index 3.53 against 5.94.
The report has an entire section devoted to perspectives of Russian competitiveness. It says that country suffers from "inadequate society institutes, poor investment and legal climate, disregard of property rights, domination of corruption and crime".
