Petrenko: Venice Commission has no questions to the lustration law
The Minister of justice of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko said that experts from the European Commission for democracy through law of the Council of Europe (Venice Commission) no more questions to the Ukrainian law on lustration (the cleansing power).
in mid-September of last year, the Parliament of Ukraine with the 3rd attempt blessed the lustration Law. As he said at the time the attorney General Vitaly Yarema, the Law contradicts the Constitution And the requirements of international law. Anyway, on 9 October, the Ukrainian head Petro Poroshenko has signed the Law, but did not rule out the report in changes in the case of comments by the Venice Commission and the constitutional court. In mid-December of last year the Commission presented its opinion about the Ukrainian law on lustration. In document experts have criticized the Law, expressing hope that the Ukrainian authorities are cooperating with the Commission on the problem formulation. The Venice Commission has arrived to Ukraine again to reconsider the Ukrainian Law on lustration.
"I confirm once again that after yesterday And today's consultations in practice, all specialists removed from the agenda. So, the commissioners realized that We adopted a unique Law that differs from practices of all countries, who conducted a classic lustration, " wrote Petrenko's own.
Petrenko said that the Commission "agreed the right to fire bureaucrats not" piece ", and collective criterion only on the basis of work in senior positions in the civil service in the times (Viktor) Yanukovych. And this principled position will remain even after the entry of changes into the Law on lustration ".
