Gur'yanov George

1961, Leningrad. He studied at the School of. Serov (1975-76). One of the founders of the "New Artists" (1982). Drummer in a rock band "Cinema" (1984-90). Lives and works in St. Petersburg. In his works Gur'yanov professes neoakademicheskuyu tradition of painting. This artist often turns to a monumental images, inspired by the aesthetics of Soviet posters and photographs of 1920-30-ies. The use of bright acrylic paints pictures reinforces a powerful impact on the viewer. Gur'yanov participated in several exhibitions in the U.S. and Russia. Personal exhibition of the artist was held in 1993 in the Marble Palace, St. Petersburg. Works are in collections of the Museum of Modern Art Tsaritsino, Moscow; Frederic R. Weisman.
