Biography Makovsky, Vladimir
1846, Moscow - 1920, St. Petersburg. Studied at MUZHVZ. In 1873 received the title of academician. He lived in Moscow since 1894 - in St. Petersburg. Member MOLH, TPHV. He taught at MUZHVZ in VHU at IAH (1894-1918). The fame brought the small genre paintings that reflect the life of broad sections of the urban and rural poor (people of different ranks and status). His paintings mostly do not contain accusatory motives, but with sympathy and delicate lyricism narrate about various aspects of life. Brushes Makovsky also belong to the portraits of several figures of Russian culture. Works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (acquired by P. Tretyakov), GRM, St. Petersburg, and many other museums and private collections in Russia and abroad.
