Vladimir Engibaryan was born April 24, 1932. He was the fourth child in the family Arusyak Mushegovny and Nicholas Ovanesovicha Engibaryanov. Boxing started an apprenticeship. Quickly got into the youth team "manpower".
In 1951, the USSR Championship he receives his first award - a bronze medal in the bantamweight champion. In 1952 he called up on charges of the Olympic team, but coaches felt his fight style Engibaryan unreliable and the Olympic Games, he did not go. Harder to light weight category in 1953 in 1 / 2 finals of the USSR, he met with 7-time Champion of the USSR Anatoly Greiner. Volodya was five years old when Anatoly Greiner, first became the champion of the USSR, and now they met in the ring. Two rounds were held on an equal footing.
- I see Greiner tired more than you, - said the break in the last trainer Volodya Edward H. Aristakesyan. - Now, more often, more often himself Attack. But remember on cross on the right.
Volodya felt tired and became a champion of the time to carefully prepare the favorite attack. Noticing that Greiner is going to reduce the distance ahead of the attack, Vladimir promptly threw his right hand, jump forward extending strike. Fed up with him - hard, exactly! But with such a leap forward for a moment, his legs torn away from the dais, and Volodya did not keep his balance. The judge credited a knockdown. Began to argue with the judge, has earned more comment, and Greiner for this time recovered from the shock. Clever use of a nervous young pervorazryadnika, Greiner spent his cross from the right. Now Volodya was not to attack ... He again won the bronze medal.
Apparently this fight made an impression on coach and in 1953, Vladimir sent to the X European Championships in Warsaw. This was the first championship for our team. Behind was a bad experience the Olympic Games in Helsinki. First battle Engibaryan held against boxers from the GDR Franz Gutshmidta. It was a hard battle throughout the three rounds was a continuous exchange of blows, but before the end of the battle Volodya first gathered the remnants of forces and rushed to the attack. The judges deliberated long, but now Vladimir felt - fingers trembled a judge, and immediately raised his hand.
Next opponent Vladimir Engibaryan was Champion of Bulgaria Ivan Markov. Volodya had seen him in the ring. Strong, aggressive fighter, a good tactician. Mark decided to go break a defense, stun, knock. At first all seemed well and it worked. Volodya was defended mostly retreated, and only a miracle did not get caught in the ropes. Markov teased strange stance Vladimir - almost frontal and gloves dropped to the level of the elbow. Face, the chest opened. Only to get it! But the goal with diabolical speed shifted in the time of attack. The aggressive ardor cooled Markov. And suddenly the role changed. Rapid attack Engibaryan followed one after another. Engibaryan equally heavily worked and left and right hand, but at the last minute yet more "included" the left. He realized that he could preserve his right to the next battle. Enemy and so confused.
Now to fight with Khozin championship, the tournament favorite, a Pole Antkevichem. Tactical plan Antkevicha - do not let go of yourself Engibaryan, wear down the powerful attacks, "get" the liver, knock the breath ... Volodya withstood fierce pressure first. For a split second before the next attack Antkevicha Volodya almost three-meter distances made rapid double jump and sent a direct blow to the left, slightly upward. Antkevich bounced off the ropes.
Hall gasped and verse ... Polish boxer took the blow, but somewhat tempered enthusiasm. Changed tactics. Now he began to hunt for the jaw, to act with medium and long range. But now what do Antkevich, was on hand to Volodya. The reaction from him faster than the Pole. The first two rounds were for the Soviet fighter.
The beginning of the third round of Hall met with complete silence. Antkevich realized that loses the battle, that in a minute - and farewell to the dream of a European championship belt. He threw himself into one of the most formidable of their attacks. But the attack bogged down. In the down turned out to be ... attacker. In the final Engibaryan easily defeated Hungarian I. Juhasz, a silver medal. And now the cherished times European champion.
Then came victory in the European Championship 1957, 1959., USSR Championship 1955, 1956, 1958. and the victory at the XVI Olympic Games.
At the XVII Olympics Vladimir Engibaryan injured his shoulder and lost a Pole Kasprzyk. That defeat Vladimir move failed and left the ring. Since he first became the champion of Europe, none of the domestic boxer could not boast of victory over him. None of the 168 fights he was not knocked down, never the enemy did not cut his eyebrow.
After performances in the ring, turned to coaching. He organized and led one of the country's first Children and Young People's specialized school of boxing in Yerevan. International Judge in 1974. - Representative of the USSR in the Judicial Commission of AIBA.
