Criticism

In the semi-serious table of ranks of unofficial art in Moscow, Konstantin Zvezdochetova - the rank of General. Despite such a high post in the military camp of Moscow conceptualism, the idea of discipline is alien to him. He generally a lot of positive qualities. For example, he shows all friendly and nice unwillingness to work.
He does not initiate the file with clippings and photographs (although it should be, professionally, etc.). I remember how Eric Frank from Geneva to persuade Kostya show anything. With difficulty, the cupboard revealed canvas, folded like a handkerchief, in the twelfth quarter. Proud by straightening his knee and showed his guest. Needless to say, that he was immediately invited to exhibit in galerie Eric FranckN
He willingly participates in all possible exhibitions, successful or unsuccessful. He enjoyed working in the company. It certainly involved in the creation of several art groups - "World Champions", such. (As often happens, "champions" stubbornly refused to acknowledge him for his father, but did not bring it back.)
. At any exhibition Zvezdochetov protects your own space, if not physical, then mental, trying to maintain a permanent presence in the contemporary Soviet art sensation of conspiracy
. Even now, when this activity ceased to be clandestine and punishable, participation is limited, and the message is not addressed to all. Let me remind you of the magnificent and untranslatable slogan that decorated the installation at the Museum of Prato, - "speak Russian please do not translate" and still exists, I hope the secret to the audience.
. Its very name, is absolutely mute for the Western man (Zvezdochotov), so artificial that it does not just take the bad taste of a nickname.
. He was loved by all, but not everyone knows what
. His exhibitions are able to put to a standstill most brave and calm critics. The public simply can not understand what is happening, make fun of her or whether she is mocking his wild, decorated with absurd care facilities. Literary themes, written or oral, accompanying the work, does not clarify the situation, but it confuses. Conversation with the author is all the more frustrating. Kosta talks about his work willingly, with the seriousness inherent in only a scientist or a clown, but by the end of the lecture interlocutor, as a rule, complaining that the artist of it "escapes".
. When he was finally taken out, demanding an explanation at last, who he was, and clearly define its credo, the interviewer gets something like this: "It's time to reveal the card ..
. I was sent to the artists as a secret agent with the objective to influence these people and their beliefs ... All my previous works were created for the purpose of conspiracy: they are only an imitation of art ... Similarly, and my preceding artistic credo was formulated to cover up the traces, and was, therefore, false ... My work - these are examples of morality and aesthetics of smuggling ... "And so on.
True story, moreover, much more interesting. Had he been a little less clever, I would have suspected him in a truly diabolical thoroughness with which he built his own biography - exactly what is needed Russian artist abroad.
. For a friendly story about their work in the Parisian art magazine "AZ" he paid eighteen months spent much of eastern Siberia
. In 1984, the year in 26-day anniversary, he was arrested, hastily drafted and sent to Kamchatka. There once a week, Major of the Army of the KGB inspired him that his so-called art manipulated in their dirty to Western intelligence. (Noticing a lack of confidence that Constantine feels towards the West, I am inclined to attribute this ultimate success of our Army counterintelligence in the early eighties, foreseeing the Russian wave in the art market.)
. The hero of his early series was the Boy-Kibalchish, who rode through the desert to the outlandish three-wheeled device, clutched in the jungle with an anaconda and taught drawing attentive Japanese girl
. Then came the history of Purdue, "a strange tribe, which keeps in its memory of ancient events: the monstrous vampire stole Sweetest holy watermelon incarnation of femininity. The hero defeats a vampire and returned watermelon people, but then fell from the hands of the ungrateful ". This infinite installation has never been exhibited as a whole, but parts of it now scattered in different countries and collections as evidence of the existence of a great country Purdue.
. Living in the space of a false epic, he invented stories no less false, but no less ambitious
. They had, as was supposed in those days, a lot of indirect Soviet associations, not to mention the fact that the main vampire wearing a sacred patronymic Ilich.
. Exhibition in Geneva, which the bones become, along with Larisa Zvezdochetova, included several staging from an imaginary ballet "The old echo
. Written in Bones libretto narrated about another failure of Satan, trying to Krishna in the guise of a demon, to steal the sacred book. Painted and draped mannequins bizarre scene played out near the different fun things, like the throne with a cage for a parrot. Near kneeling feminine Satan in the form of Krishna with a dark purple body color thundercloud. It has always portrayed the demon, destroyer and protector at the same time, in whose name Krishna or Kristna see the future of the name of Christ. However, the transition from Satan to Christ was not the only possible interpretation of the exhibition.
. At DOKUMENTA in Kassel (where only three artists invited to represent Russia - Ilya Kabakov, Coste Zvezdochetova and Masha Serebryakova), he showed great classical mosaic Nikulin, Vitsin and Morgunova on a gold background
. I can not imagine what they thought about this unfortunate Germans and why Mosaic was such a success.
He does not care to be understood. It offers everything to take on faith. Because it works - not the most important. Solo myth of the artist - is the main concept of modern art. To make art, we must first make himself. Konstantin Zvezdochetov artistic career began with the most magnificent of its work: his own image. This image is irresistibly funny and worth the money to spend on his work - perhaps secretly knowing it members of the global conspiracy of artists of the East against West trusting.

A. Tarkhanov. Konstantin Zvezdochetov as an agent of influence. " - Capital, 1993, N1
