Biography Balaban (Dionysius)
Occupying Kholmsk episcopal chair, subjected to harassment by the Uniates, which forced him to go to Lutsk chair. November 6, 1657 Cathedral southern Russian bishops elected Metropolitan of Kiev, at a time when the Moscow State sought together with the political subjugation of Little Russia, and the southern Russian clergy subordinate to the power of their patriarch. But Dionysius opposed this and even expressed their devotion to Poland and only after approval by the king Vygovsky hetman obeyed Moscow, making a vow to "be a great gosudarskoyu every good idea and want him".
