Biography David August Yul'evich
(1823 - 1885) born in Kurland in a Jewish family in 1841, Mr.. entered the Moscow University and graduated from the course in 1845 with a gold medal for his essay "On beskonechnomalyh displacements". After his university career of David continued his studies in mathematics under the guidance of Professor N.D. Brashman. In 1848, Mr.. David holds a Master of Mathematics (and later the Demidov Prize) for the essay "The theory of equilibrium of bodies immersed in a liquid". In 1850, Mr.. began as an adjunct, lecturing on physics and mathematics department of Moscow University on the theory of probability. In 1851, Mr.. David defended his doctoral thesis entitled: "Determination of the type of surface liquid contained in a vessel". In the same year published his "Theory of capillary phenomena". In 1853, Mr.. David was appointed extraordinary professor in the department of applied mathematics - the title, where he remained until 1859, Mr.. During this period, he wrote: "Application of probability theory to statistics" and "Application of probability theory to medicine", . and on the mechanics: "The device and the effect of steam engines", . "The largest number of equilibria floating triangular prism" and "theory of equilibrium phone, . immersed in a liquid ",
. In 1859, Mr.. David was appointed full professor in position they applied mathematics department, and in 1862. transferred to the department of pure mathematics, which I kept after him until the end of service at the University. It is also important branch of public work of David was his active participation in the direction of teaching mathematics in secondary schools. It began with the adoption of them in 1860, the post of inspector of private schools of the capital, but traces still remain, and until now, thanks to its numerous and popular books. First came his "Elementary Geometry" - in 1863. until 1889. she managed to survive 13 newspapers.
