Kutorga Mikhail Semenovich

(1809 - 1886). He studied at St. Petersburg University and the Tartu Institute professors, received a Master of Philosophy for his thesis: "De tribubus Attieis eorumque cum regni partibus nexu" (Dorpat, 1832). Sent abroad, studied in Paris, Heidelberg, Munich and Berlin. He was a professor of history at Saint Petersburg University. He received his Ph.D. for his thesis "Knee and estates Attic" (St. Petersburg, 1838). From 1869 to 1874. read history at Moscow University. Three times to visit Greece. Kutorga can be considered the first Russian scientist who dedicated themselves to self-development of universal history. His lectures were marked strictly scientific critical direction. In the late forties Kutorga hosted a home-based historical seminar, which was trying to acquaint students with the methods of historical criticism. Kutorga interested primarily major issues of internal history of Athens.
