Biography Nebogatov Nikolai Ivanovich
Born in 1849. January 10, 1905, Mr.. appointed commander of the so-called third squadron, sent from the Baltic Sea to the Far East in support of the squadron of Vice Admiral Rozhdestvensky. Squadron Nebogatov consisted of 4 battleships obsolete type, and several other ships, too old. Coming from Libau in January 1905, a poor caught in April the squadron of Admiral Rozhdestvensky and entered under his command. May 14, 1905, Mr.. there was a battle with the Japanese in the Strait near the island of Tsushima. Nebogatov first commanded only his party, but when at about 6 pm Rozhestvensky in a battle that lasted an extremely unfortunate for the Russian, was seriously wounded, the High Command was transferred to him as a senior. In fact, however, the overall command was no longer possible, because the Russian squadron was given in complete disorder. Nebogatov commanded to keep the course in Vladivostok, but was followed only by his squad and a few ships. During the night it caught up with the Japanese fleet was far in excess of its forces. Nebogatov passed my whole detachment to the Japanese without a fight and he was taken prisoner. For this, on his return to Russia, he, together with 77 officers, was betrayed by his naval court (December 1906). The court sentenced him to death with a request to replace its 10 years of hard labor, to the same punishment had been sentenced, three captains, 4 other officers were sentenced to several months in the fortress, the other acquitted. After spending 25 months in the fortress, was pardoned Nebogatov.
