AGORAKRIT

A native of the island of Paros, the style is very close to his teacher Phidias. Two of the most famous of his works - the cult statue of the goddess Nemesidy in her sanctuary in Ramnunte in Attica (c.. 430-420 BC) and the statue of the Mother of the gods in Athens - is sometimes attributed to Phidias. Of the works mentioned by ancient authors, only the statue of Zeus, Hades and Athena in the Crown (Boeotia) undoubtedly belonged Agorakritu. From his works preserved only part of the head of colossal statues Nemesidy (now in the British Museum) and fragments of the reliefs which adorned its base. According to Pausanias, were depicted on the basis of a young Helen (daughter Nemesidy, according to the variant of the myth) with Ledoy suckled her, her husband Menelaus, and other relatives of Helen and Menelaus.
