ARMIN Jacob

(1560-1609)
Born in Audevatere (South Holland) October 10, 1560. He studied at Leiden and University of Geneva (in Geneva, Theodore Bezae, a pupil of Calvin). In 1588 became a pastor in the Dutch Reformed Church in Amsterdam in 1603 - a professor of theology at Leiden University. In 1618-1619 Reformatsky Synod of Dordrecht formally condemned the doctrine Arminians, 200 Arminian clergy lost their posts. In Holland Arminians survived as a small sect. Arminianism had a strong influence on theologians in other countries (such as John Wesley in England), disagree with the Calvinist doctrine of predestination.
