Biography AZAD Abul Kalam (Azad Maulana Abul Kalam)
(1888-1958)
Born November 11, 1888 in Mecca, the birth was named Mohuddinom Ahmad. Occurred from a noble family in Delhi. He received education at home in Calcutta, he studied the Arabic language, geography, history and culture of the East. The first article Azad was published when he was twelve years old. In 1906, Azad was assistant editor of the newspaper, after the publication of the magazine Al-Hilal 'in 1912, became a prominent figure in Indian politics. This edition is called for Muslims to join the struggle for independence of India, and in 1914 the British government shut down the magazine, and Azad was arrested. Released in January 1920, participated in the movement of civil disobedience led by Mahatma Gandhi.
In 1923, Azad was elected chairman of the Indian National Congress (INC). In 1940, again elected chairman of the Congress and remained head of the party before 1946. Conducted negotiations for independence to the country with Sir Stafford Cripps in 1942, with Lord Uevellom in 1945 and with the mission of the Cabinet of Ministers in 1946.

Azad was the first minister of education in independent India, and remained in that post until his death in New Delhi in 1958. As the Minister had reforms, among them - that a single nationwide program for primary education, the reorganization of secondary and higher education and improve the teaching of engineering and science.

Azad - the author of commentaries on the Koran and several theological studies, as well as the book India wins freedom (India Wins Freedom, 1959).
