Frederic Eugene Ives (Ives Frederic Eugene)

(1856-1937)
Born February 17, 1856, near Lichfield (pc. Connecticut). At age 11, was adopted by the apprentice to the printing of the newspaper 'Lichfield inkvayerer'. He moved to Ithaca (pc. New York), where in 1873 he started work in printing. Engaged in development of methods to get the image on the wet colloidal platelets. In 1875 opened his own photo studio in Ithaca, and became the official photographer of Cornell University.
During this period, Ives began to engage in inventive. His first invention was photoengraving - getting grayscale images using gelatin light-sensitive layer. In 1878 Ives moved to Philadelphia and in 1881 established a commercial production of plates for halftone printing. Developed fotohromoskopicheskuyu system of color photography, which allows to receive images from the ideal transfer perspective, form and color, viewed through a special hromoskop.
