Biography Bartolozzi, Francesco (Bartolozzi, Francesco)
(1727-1815) Born in Florence in 1727. He studied at the Florentine Academy of Arts Ignazio Hyuforda. Since 1745 over six years working in the studio a Venetian engraver Joseph Wagner. Then he moved to Rome, where his patron was Cardinal Bottari, but works Bartolozzi not a great success. At the invitation of curator collection of King George III Dalton Bartolozzi in 1764 and came to England. In London, under the leadership of William C. Ryland, he mastered the technique of engraving dotted. During his stay in London Bartolozzi engraving complied with many pictures of the royal collection. For Boydella, fashionable merchant engravings, he engraved plaque with paintings Guercino, Annibale Carracci, Carlo Dolci and his friends - Dzh.B.Chipriani, Angelica Kauffmann and Joshua Reynolds. Among the most famous works Bartolozzi - Venus, Cupid and Satyr (with pictures of Luca Giordano), Madonna and Child (with pictures Sassoferrato), Mary, Queen of Scots and her son James I (by F. Zuccaro). In 1769 he became a full member of the Royal Academy of Arts. November 2, 1802 the artist left England and at the invitation of the Prince Regent of Portugal arrived in Lisbon, where he became the founder of the local school engravers. Bartolozzi was one of the most famous masters of the dotted engraving 18 in. Bartolozzi died in Lisbon March 9, 1815.
