Biography Berchet, Giovanni (Berchet Giovanni)
(1783-1851) Born December 23, 1783 in Milan. In 1816 he published a manifesto of Romanticism half-serious letter Chrysostom (Lettera semiseria di Crisostomo), in which the literature for 'on' is charged with the principle of nationality and the need for the expression of national ideals. To escape arrest for his political views, in 1821 he emigrated from Italy to London, where later he moved to Belgium. Upon his return to Italy in 1848 served in Parliament Piedmont. In London, Berchet published a collection of Romances (Romanze, 1822-1824), which included the poem Fugitives from Pargi (I Profughi di Parga), Hermit of Chenizio (Il Romito del Cenisio), Repentance (Il Rimorso) and several other. In 1829 published a poem fantastic dreams (Le Fantasie). Lyrics Berchet enjoyed enormous popularity and many have contributed to the movement for the liberation of Italy. Berchet died in Turin on December 23, 1851
