Biography Brusiliv Alexei
(1853-1926) Born 19 (31) in August 1853 in Tiflis (now Tbilisi, Georgia). As the trooper was involved in the Russian-Turkish war in 1877-1878 on the Caucasian Front. In 1911 he was appointed commander of the Army Corps in Podolia. In 1912-1913 - assistant commander of the Warsaw Military District,. At the beginning of World War took Galicia. In April 1915 commanded the 8 th Army, and in the Carpathian operations conducted military operations against General A.fon McKenzie (Battle of Galicia). The forces were unequal, and Brussilov retreated. In April 1916 he was appointed commander of the South-Western Front and in the same year, carried out a successful attack ( 'Brusilovsky break'), returned and came to Galicia Bukovina. The success of this operation led to the defeat of the Austro-Hungarian army. After the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II in 1917 Brusiliv tried to continue the war. In May 1917 he resigned, but it was not accepted, and Brussilov was given the post of Supreme Commander. After the failure of the June offensive in 1917 was replaced by L. G. Kornilov. Before 1920 posts is not held. Was appointed military inspector in the central apparatus of the People's Commissariat of Military Affairs. He fought against Poland in 1923-1924 was an inspector of cavalry. Died Brusiliv in Moscow March 17, 1926.
