Biography Frank Dobson (Dobson Frank)
(1888-1963) Born November 18, 1888 in London. His father was an illustrator of books on natural history. Future sculptor worked in art schools in Epping, Arbroath and London. In 1913, Dobson chose the sculpture, becoming the leader of the avant-garde direction. He participated in organizing the 'Group X', and in 1923-1927 was its chairman. In 1942 he was elected an associate member of the Royal Academy of Arts. From the outset in the work of Dobson was a tendency to simplify forms, reduced to a compressed, somewhat misshapen masses. He developed his own style, based on the early ancient classics and to some extent - on the works of A. Maillol. In later work Dobson distorted forms are becoming more visible.
