Rockwell KENT (Kent Rockwell)

(1882-1971)
Born in Tarrytown Heights (New York) June 21, 1882. Attended Columbia University and later studied with Robert Henri, William Chase, Kenneth Hayes Miller, and Abbott H. Thayer. Kent made his debut with the young, innovative artists in the exhibition of independent artists in 1910. Working with equal success in various techniques - oil painting, watercolors, feather drawing, lithography and woodcut - he combined the classic shape with a romantic mood. In terms of its themes and motifs were landscapes, seascapes and dramatic scenes. He wrote and he illustrated several books: In the wild side (1930), Course N by E (1930), Rokuellkentiana (1933), This is my own (1940), Rockwell Kent (1946), It's me, O Lord! (1955), about people and the mountains (1959). He also created illustrations for many other books, including Voltaire's Candide (1928), Bridge of San Luis Rey, Wilde (1929), Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (1930), Moby Dick (1930) H. Melville, and Beowulf (1931). In addition, Rockwell Kent studied the life of Eskimos and conducted extensive lecture activity. His paintings are in the Columbus (Ohio), in the Gallery of Fine Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Died in Platsberge Rockwell Kent (New York) March 13, 1971.
