Biography Luigi Cherubino (Cherubini Luigi)
(1760-1842)
Born September 14, 1760 in Florence. By age 16, was already the author of several masses, oratorios, cantatas and other works in the church genres. He left Italy at the age of twenty-odd years, having worked well opera Armida (Armida, 1782). During his stay in London (1784-1786) Cherubini was a court composer to King George III. After 1788 settled in Paris. Here, under the influence of the unity of music and drama, imaged in the operas KV Gluck, Cherubini refused easy and largely a formal letter of Italian opera, and began working in the style of a more expressive and harmonically rich. Enjoyed the greatest success of his operas Lodoiska (Lodoiska, 1791), Medea (Mde, 1797) - based on the story of ancient Greek tragedy, the opera occasionally put up so far, two days (Les Deux Journes - in Russia was called the Water Carrier, 1800) -- TN. opera salvation with melodramatic plot, . which (as the type of vocal writing) has had a significant impact on Beethoven's only opera Fidelio; Anacreon, . or fleeting love (Anacreon, . ou L'Amour fugitif, . 1803) - overture of this opera is still included in the concert repertoire,

In recent years, 18. and the first years of the 19. formed for Cherubini failed: he was ill, suffered hardship and did not use the location of the authorities. The composer continued to compose operas, but the key in his work became church genres, among them well-known Mass in F major, and such great works as the Mass in A major and C minor Requiem. In the end, the work of Cherubini received public recognition, and he in 1816 became the court musician and the Superintendent of the Royal Chapel, and in 1822 - the director of the Paris Conservatory; held this position until near the end of life. Cherubini died in Paris on March 15, 1842.
