Born in Grenoble (France) September 30, 1715. His elder brother, the Abbe Mably, was a famous political thinker. Condillac was ordained a priest in 1740 and took the name of the Abbe de Mureaux. He was elected a member of the Berlin Academy and the French Academy (1768). The philosophy of Condillac called sensationalism. According to this theory, feelings are the only source of knowledge, to reduce the sensations and thoughts and memories. Condillac was a disciple of Locke, one of the authors of the French Encyclopedia and friend Jean Jacques Rousseau.
