Biography Rene Theophile Hyacinthe Laennec
(1781-1826)
Born February 17, 1781 in Campers. In 1799 he joined the Republican Army as assistant surgeon. In 1801 he worked in a Paris hospital under the direction of J. corvisart, personal doctor of Napoleon, and M. Bisha. In 1802, his first scientific paper devoted to peritonitis, an exact description of their symptoms, then there were articles about the anatomy of the brain and the membranes of liver cirrhosis. In 1804 Laennec's thesis teachings of Hippocrates and practical medicine. Engaged in private practice, has published numerous articles on the results of monitoring patients. In 1814 became chief editor of 'Medical Journal' ( 'Journal de Mdecine'). During World War II he worked in the hospital Salpetriere.
In 1816, Laennec was the place of a doctor in the hospital Necker. In the same year, invented the stethoscope, and developed a new method of auscultation. With the help of his instrument opened the symptoms of diseases of the chest cavity, and gave them an accurate description, compared clinical data from mortem picture. Studies Laennec introduced in February 1818 at a meeting of the Medical Society, . and in April the following year transferred to the publisher his work A Treatise on indirect auscultation and lung and heart (Trait de l'auscultation mdiate, . et des maladies des poumons et du coeur),
. For each copy of the book accompanied by a stethoscope. Among the numerous descriptions of signs of various diseases special place in the book is a chapter on pulmonary tuberculosis. Laennec first gave a clear description of clinical disease and presented it to the anatomical picture. Pointed to the possibility of cure of tuberculosis and has led the anatomical and clinical examples of scarring cavities.

He was elected a professor at the College de France and a member of the Medical Academy, received a chair at the Charitц?. Laennec died in Kerluaneke August 13, 1826.
