Borrowing themes and mimicking techniques of commercial illustration products - cartoons, to Text, advertising - Lihtensteyn shaped the iconography of American consumer culture.
Lihtensteyn born October 27, 1923 in New York to a wealthy family. In 1940 he entered the Faculty of Fine Arts at Ohio State University. In 1960 Lihtensteyn met Claes Oldenburg, Jim and Dinah and other New York avant-garde. While in New York often arranged 'happenings'. . los!, 1963). Selecting any image with the projector, he bore a larger image on a large canvas. The result was an image, surpassing the original value by tens or even hundreds of times, cropped up in unexpected places, consisting of enlarged halftone dots, with a wide black outline, filled with simple local flowers. In his other works in such a stylized and ironic manner, treated subjects and forms, characteristic of Cubism, Fauvism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism and other areas of modern art. Lihtensteyn also created sculpture, monumental paintings and paintings, just as abstract as the painting, which he decried in his works in the style of pop art. Lihtensteyn died in New York on 29 September 1997.
