Carl Milles (Milles Carl)

(1875-1955)
Born June 23, 1875 in laggs, near Uppsala. He studied at the Royal Technical Institute in Stockholm and at the Academy Kolarossi in Paris (1897-1904). His first solo exhibition was organized in 1914 in Malmo (Sweden), and the first exhibition abroad - in 1927 in the Tate Gallery in London. In 1928 he visited the U.S. in 1931 began teaching at Kranbrukskoy Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills (pc. Michigan). Milles has been influenced by A. Rodin, his compositions consist mainly of human figures allegorical. He created a lot of fountains and monuments for the Swedish cities. Among the most famous works Milles - statues for the Rockefeller Center in New York. His latest work - Channel music - was made for the Metropolitan Museum in New York. At the end of the life of the sculptor returned to Sweden. Milles died in Lidingo near Stockholm, September 19, 1955.
