Biography RENOIR, Pierre Auguste (Renoir Pierre Auguste)
(1841-1919)
Born in Limoges, February 25, 1841. Soon his family moved to Paris, where in 1862 he entered the studio of Charles Gleyre, mediocre wizard, but a good connoisseur of painting techniques, taught him respect for the craft artist for life. Here Renoir met Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro and other artists that have piqued his interest in plein air painting. Despite the fact that Renoir has participated in several exhibitions of the Impressionists, he continued to send their works to the Salon, where particular success was a portrait of Madame Charpentier and her daughters (New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art). The main contribution to Renoir's Impressionist painting - the use of bright colors when painting human figures and creating complex multi-image compositions. During the 1870-1880-ies Renoir favorite themes - pastimes and entertainment middle and lower classes of the era of the Third Republic: Moulin de la Galetm (1876, Paris, Louvre), Breakfast boatmen (Washington, DC, Phillips gallery) etc.. By 1885 Renoir realized that the bright rainbow colors of his palette adequately the real world. After a trip to Italy and study the paintings by French masters 18. he became more aware of the pattern and the transfer of volume of work of this period represent a so-called. 'Dry Style' Renoir.
Renoir was a brilliant colorist, but not a theorist of art. The gloomy tone of his early works under the influence of painting Monet and Pissarro gradually gave way in the 1870's greenish-blue color scheme. In 1880, as a result of entrainment painting Francois Boucher and Eugene Delacroix in the paintings of the artist is dominated by the warm yellow and red colors. However, the strongest impact on Renoir's painting by Rubens had, with its wealth of shades of red, which became the basis of color of his own works.

The artist suffers from arthritis in 1912 he could write, but tying a brush to his hand. Renoir died at his home in Cagnes-sur-Mer on Dec. 17, 1919.
