Pierre Elliot Trudeau (Trudeau Pierre Elliott)

(1919-2000)
Born October 18, 1919 in Montreal. He studied law, economics and political science at the University of Montreal, Harvard and the London School of Economics and University of Paris. In 1949 he returned to Canada, took up the practice of law, involved in politics and trade unionism Quebec. The magazine 'Citц? In December 1979, Joe Clark's Conservative government unexpectedly defeated in the parliamentary vote on the budget. Again becoming prime minister, Trudeau remained in office four and a half years. In 1982 initiated changes in the federal constitution to end the authority of the British Parliament. Faced with opposition, Trudeau mobilized lobbying group to support the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (as part of the Constitution). In June 1984 Trudeau resigned as prime minister and party leader.
