Biography Pierre Elliot Trudeau (Trudeau Pierre Elliott)
(1919-2000)
Born October 18, 1919 in Montreal. He studied law, economics and political science at the University of Montreal, Harvard and the London School of Economics and University of Paris. In 1949 he returned to Canada, took up the practice of law, involved in politics and trade unionism Quebec. The magazine 'Citц? Libre' ( 'Cit Libre') Trudeau denounced authoritarian methods of Quebec premier Maurice Duplessis. Took part in the campaign updates of the Liberal Party of Quebec.
Firm supporter of federalism, Trudeau opposed any attempts to strengthen the political role of the provincial. In the election campaign in 1963 was against the Liberals, while remaining on the platform of the new Democrats. In 1965, with two political allies, Jean Pelletier and Jean Marchand, joined the Liberal Party with the intention to reform it from within.

In 1967, Prime Minister Pearson, Trudeau appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General. On behalf of the Government Trudeau served as the main opponent of Quebec's premiere D. Johnson, is seeking special status for Quebec. In April 1968 Trudeau was elected leader of the Liberal Party and became Prime Minister.

In 1972, Trudeau was the party in the minority in parliament, but remained in power until the election defeat in May 1979. In December 1979, Joe Clark's Conservative government unexpectedly defeated in the parliamentary vote on the budget. Again becoming prime minister, Trudeau remained in office four and a half years. In 1982 initiated changes in the federal constitution to end the authority of the British Parliament. Faced with opposition, Trudeau mobilized lobbying group to support the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (as part of the Constitution). In June 1984 Trudeau resigned as prime minister and party leader. The end of life practiced law.

Trudeau died in Montreal on September 28, 2000.
