Biography CHEPIN Frances Stewart (Chapin Francis Stuart)
(1888-1974) Born February 3, 1888 in Brooklyn (ea. New York). He studied at the University of Rochester (1905-1908), then at Columbia University (he graduated in 1909, the same in 1911 received his doctorate). In early works relied on the theory of social evolution F. Giddings. He taught sociology at Wellesley College (1911-1912) and Smith College (1912-1922). In 1922 he headed the Department of Sociology at the University of Minnesota. A recognized leader of the statistical school of sociology. Later works, such as experimental models in sociological research (Experimental Designs in Sociological Research, 1947, 1955) that best illustrate his methodology. He was editor of the periodicals 'Soshiel Science Abstracts' ( 'Social Science Abstracts') (1928-1933) and 'American sosiolodzhikal rivyu' ( 'American Sociological Review') (1944-1946). Since 1935 - president of the American Sociological Society, since 1949 - Professor Emeritus, retired. Died Chepin in Asheville (pc. North Carolina), July 7, 1974.
