After the historical-philological faculty of Moscow University (1914) until August 1917 he taught at a private gymnasium in Smolensk in 1917. - In higher education institutions in Moscow (All-Union Law Academy, Pedagogical Institute). In July 1950, Mr.. was appointed Deputy Director of the Institute of Linguistics of the USSR.

Research interests H. devoted to the history of Russian literary language, historical grammar of Russian language, language of ancient and central written monuments, language and style of Russian literature XVIII-XX centuries, Old Church Slavonic. Author of the monograph "The verb, its categories and forms in Russian literature the second half of the sixteenth century" (Moscow, 1952). H. number of articles devoted to linguistic features of written records: "From observations on language and style of the messages of Ivan IV", "Language of Literature, Moscow XIV - XVIII centuries", "From observations on the language Domostroi Konshinskomu on the list, etc.
