BASS Cesium (Caesius Bassus)

Cesium Bass, Caesius Bassus, I in. n. e., Roman poet. Died in 79 g. His friend was a Persian, who devoted his satire VI, and TS.B. he publishes the works of the poet after his death. Quintilian praised lyrical works TS.B. and put it on par with Horace. From works TS.B. survived only one gekzametrichesky verse, so we find it hard to make your own opinion about it. It is possible that the same TS.B. is the author of a manual on the metric Liber de metris, dedicated to the Emperor Nero. This work is also survived only a few quotations from the later grammarians. In this work, following Varro, TS.B. developed the so-called theory of derivation, which drove all the different metric units to two main: dactylic hexameter and iambic trimeter. TS.B. attributed to Horace's treatise on metric units.
