Eunapius (Eunapios)

Eunapius; Eunapios, of Sardis, ok.345-ok. 420 years. n. e., Greek speaker. He studied in Athens, was the Neoplatonists, the enemy of Christians. Posted biographies of 23 contemporary philosophers (such as those of Plotinus and Porphyry), under the title Lives of the Sophists (Bioi sofiston), following the way of biographical writing Philostratus II. Work E. is an important source of study of cultural life since the Emperor Julian the Apostate. On the advice of his friend Oribaziya wrote Historical Notes (Hypomnemata historika), continuing the work of the historian III. n. e. Dexippus from Athens. Its contents are enclosed in 14 books, we know from the works of Byzantine historians and compilers of the Church, as well as extracts, preserved among others in Photius. It depicts events following the death of Claudius II (270) up to 404, with a more detailed description of the reign of Emperor Julian.
