Biography Julius Sextus Julius Africanus (Sextus Iulius Africanus)
Julius Sextus Julius Africanus; Sextus Iulius Africanus, II in. n. e., Greek Christian writer. Born in Jerusalem. He was ambassador to the Roman emperor in the case of the city of Emmaus. He served in the army of Alexander Severus and his commission created the library in the Pantheon. The most significant work of S. were 5 volumes of Chronicles (Chronographiai), where he built in chronological order the date of biblical and political history from the beginning to 221 g. n. e. Composing S. used by Eusebius and other Christian historians. The work patterns (Kestoi), dedicated to Alexander Severus, contains all sorts of information from different areas of knowledge, but to a greater extent it relates to science and military tactics. 2 letters preserved Yu: to Origen and to Aristide.
