Pausanias Periget; Pausanias, OK. 115-after 180 years. n. e., Greek writer. Occurred, apparently from the outskirts of Magnesia. Visited Syria, Italy, Corsica, Arabia, Babylon. In 160-180 years. Wandering wrote on Hellas (Periegesis tes Hellados) in 10 books, which described Attica, Corinth, Lakedemon, Messenia, Elis, Aheyu, Arcadia, Boeotia and Phocis. This book is the only completely preserved example of the so-called perigezy (cm. Geographical Literature). Wanderings of Hellas - this is the most detailed description of Greece, which left us Antiquity. This perigeza complemented by numerous historical, mythological, and geographical paradoksograficheskimi trips, occupying half of the product. P. described Greece on personal impressions, using literary and historical works. He quoted from Homer, Hesiod, Herodotus and others. In accordance with the interests of his time, P. often talks about those monuments that recall the grandeur of ancient Greece, at least - of the Hellenistic and the least attention to today, except those associated with the names of Hadrian, Antoninus Pius and Herodes Attica. He wrote in psevdoioniyskom dialect, in the whimsical Mannerist style. His work - a valuable source of our knowledge of Greece and its culture.
