Biography Tikhomirov Nikolay Ivanovich
Tikhomirov Nikolay Ivanovich (1859-1930) - Soviet specialist in the field of missile technology. In 1894, he addressed the problem of creating rockets - "self-propelled mines reactive action". In 1912 Sea ministrstvu presented a draft of such a projectile. In 1915 he filed a petition for extradition privileges to a new type of 'self-propelled mines' for water and air. Tikhomirov suggested as the driving force of the reaction gases, resulting from the combustion of explosives or inflammable liquid fuels in combination with ejecting the environment. Invention Tikhomirov received a positive assessment of the expert committee under the chairmanship of N. E. Zhukovsky. In 1921 at the suggestion Tikhomirova in Moscow was a laboratory for the development of his inventions received afterwards (after translation in Leningrad) the name of the gasdynamic Laboratory (GDL). Shortly after the foundation work has focused on creating GDL rockets on smokeless powder. In 1930, addressed Tikhomirova issued a patent for a powder formulation and manufacture of pieces of it. Name Tikhomirova named a crater on the Moon.
