Korzhavin (real name - Mandel) Nahum (p. 1925), poet.
Born on October 14 in Kiev. Before the war, was expelled from school because of conflict with the director. The outbreak of war forced to leave his native city.
In 1945 joined the Literary Institute. Gorky, but at the end of 1947, was arrested and spent 8 months in the Lubyanka, then was sent: to 1951 in exile in the Siberian village Chumakov, then - in Karaganda, where in 1953 he graduated from the Mining College and received a degree from a mine foreman.
In 1954 an amnesty he returned to Moscow. In life earned translations. In 1956, was rehabilitated and was able to continue their studies at the Literary Institute, which he graduated in 1959. Occasionally published poems in various magazines. The first significant collection of poems Korzhavina appeared in 1961 in "Tarusa pages" and attracted the attention of readers. In 1963 came a collection of "Years" (verses 1941 - 61, edited by E. Vinokurov). Many of the poems of the poet went to the lists published in samizdat.
Started trying to force and drama. In 1967, the play Korzhavina "Once in the twentieth" was staged in the Theater. Stanislavsky. In 1966 - 67 participated in the movement of progressive intellectuals in defense of Daniel and Sinyavsky, then Galanskov and Ginzburg. After that he, like all "signed-ing, stopped printing. In 1973 he applied to leave the country, declaring the reason: "the lack of air for life". Leaves in the U.S., in Boston. Belongs to the Editor "Continental". Many speakers in American universities. Two volumes of poetry - "Seasons" (1976) and "Plexus" (1981) came out in Frankfurt (Germany).
Peru Korzhavina owned articles and essays - "The experience of poetic biography" (1968), "The fate of Yaroslav Smelyakov". In 1991 he published his book "Letter to Moscow" (verses and poems) in 1992 - "Time is given" (verses and poems).
In recent years, a frequent visitor to Russia. He lives in Boston.
