Kuliev Kaysin Shuvaevich (1917 - 1985), Balkar poet.

Born on November 1 in the old Balkar village of Upper Chegem in the family of pastoralists and hunter. He grew up in the mountains. A child lost his father, lived a difficult childhood, very early began to work.

In 1926 went to just open a school in the Lower Chegem, where I first saw the book, began to learn Russian. In 10 years, wrote his first poems. After school he studied in college in Nalchik, the thick filling notebooks with his verses. At seventeen was printed in newspapers.

In 1935, Kuliev arrives in Moscow and, while firmly decided to become a poet, goes to the Theater Institute (GITIS), where he studied all the arts and culture, to become a well-educated man. Simultaneously he attended lectures at the Literary Institute, continuing to write poetry. In 1939, graduated from the institute, returned to Nalchik, teaches literature in the teachers' institute. In 1940 comes the first book of poems, "Good morning, morning!".

In 1940 he joined the Red Army, he served in the Air Force. The spring of 1941 the brigade was sent to Latvia, where Kuliev and met with war. After heavy fighting at Orel was wounded, got to the hospital. He wrote many poems that are printed in the newspapers "Pravda", "Red Star", etc.. Later fought at Stalingrad front is a war correspondent for "Son of the Fatherland". Participated in the battles for the liberation of southern cities, was again wounded, treated in hospital for a long time. During the war, wrote a few cycles of poems - "In the hour of trouble," "On those who never returned", "Perekop" (1942 - 44).

In 1945 he left for Kyrgyzstan, worked at the Writers' Union (on the recommendation of Tikhonov), wrote poetry, but could not publish them (Balkar people had been resettled by Stalin during the war). Translated the. In May 1956 Guliyev arrived in Moscow, where Tikhonov helped publish a book of poems, "Mountains", published in 1957, the same year published by the Young Guard, a second book - "Bread and roses".

In the same 1956 Kuliev returned to Nalchik. Finally he was able to become a professional writer. In the light of his poetical collection: "Wounded Stone" (1964), "Book of the Earth" (1972), "Evening" (1974), "Evening Light" (1979), "Beauty of the Earth" (1980) and others. In 1985, K. Kuliev died.
