Biography Sergeev-Tsensky Sergey
Sergeev-Tsensky (real name - Sergeev) Sergei (1875 - 1958), writer. Born on September 18 (30 NS) in the village Preobrazhenskoe Tambov province in the family of a teacher, an avid reader, which has affected son. Brought up on the poems of Pushkin, Lermontov, and Krylov's fables, many of them memorized, in seven years, he began to write poetry.

After graduating from high school goes to Glukhovsky Teacher's Institute, where he continued to write poetry. Later, many of the poems of this period will be included in his first collection of poetry "Thoughts and Dreams" (1901).

After graduating from the institute in 1895, received the appointment to the gymnasium, but on their own military service and serving only a year later became a teacher of Russian language in Kamenetz-Podolsk. Realizing that the need for creative knowledge of life, often changing "their environment and landscape": works in Kharkov, Odessa, Moscow educational districts in Pavlodar and Talsene (near Riga).

Since 1900 began to write short stories, the first of which were published in Russian Thought "(" Forgotten "and" Tundra "). Stay in the army during the Russian-Japanese War and in the first year of the First World War gave Sergeyev rich material for the novel "The Lieutenant Babayev", . stories "Bailiff Deryabin" and "Gaffer", . epic "Sevastopol Strada" and "The Transfiguration of Russia",

His recognition of the writer is obliged Kuprin, convinced him to come to St. Petersburg to publish their books there. Artworks Sergeyev-Tsensky immediately attracted the attention of readers and critics. There were long articles on his literary work.

In 1905 the writer lived in the Crimea, Alushta, where he had his own house. Here he met the revolution of 1917, survived the Civil War. At this time, he wrote little. Since 1923, drawn to historical themes (plays, stories and novels of Pushkin, Lermontov and Gogol).

In 1930 there were published the story "lucky", "Lighthouse in the Fog" stories "Mental calculation", "Voronyata" and others. Supported the writer Maxim Gorky, seeing it as continuing the traditions of Russian classic literature.

During World War II wrote journalistic articles, stories about the heroes of contemporary (a collection of "real people", 1943), novels "Brusilovsky breakthrough", "Guns nominated" and "Guns of talking" (1944).

Until the end of life Sergeev-Tsensky remained an active writer, working on the last novel of the epic "The Transfiguration of Russia". He died at the age of 83 on Dec. 3, 1958 in Alushta.
