Wenk, Walter (Wenk) (1900-1982), General Germanic army. Born September 18, 1900 in Wittenberg. In 1911 enrolled in the Cadet School in Naumberge, in 1918 - a military school in Gros - Lichterfeld. In 1920 became a private in the Reichswehr in 1923 promoted to sergeant - officers. In May 1933 a wreath at the rank of lieutenant was transferred to the 3rd Motorized Cavalry Regiment. After training at the General Staff, Wenk in 1936 was admitted to the headquarters of the Tank Corps, stationed in Berlin. May 1, 1939 he was promoted to the rank of Major, and he was appointed staff officer 1, Panzer Division in Weimar. Within this division Wenk participated in the fighting in Poland and on the Western Front, where he was wounded in the leg. December 1, 1940 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. June 22, 1941 1 st Armored Division was transferred to the Eastern Front, where he participated in the battles of Leningrad, and then at Moscow. In December 1941 the division was encircled, but thanks to the plan developed by Wenk was able to escape from the environment, for that Wenk was awarded the Golden Cross and passed in the General Staff Academy. 1 June 1942 he was promoted to colonel, and again sent a staff officer on the Eastern Front. Wenk participated in the battle for the Caucasus.

During the Battle of Stalingrad, he was Chief of Staff of the 3rd Romanian Army, where the broken and demoralized parts he was able to develop effective units defending Rostov. December 28, 1942 Wenk was awarded the Knight's Cross, and February 1, 1943 promoted to Major-General.
