Rostislavovich Vladimir Gardin, director, screenwriter, actor. Real name - Blagonravov. Born in Moscow (according to other data - in Tver). In 1894 he graduated from the Cadet Corps. From 1898 - actor amateur troupe provincial scene. In 1909-1912 - actor and theater director of Voronezh, Saratov and Tsarina. In 1896-1897, he served in the Army 1915-1917. Since 1913 one of the main actors and directors pre-revolutionary Russian cinema. Until 1917, they delivered 33 films, among them - 'Anna Karenina', 'Kreutzer Sonata', 'War and Peace', 'Keys of happiness', 'Brandt', 'eve', 'young lady-farmer', etc.. In 1919 - one of the organizers, and then - the first director of Goskinoshkoly in Moscow (now - VGIK). Since 1924 - director and actor Leningrad studios: Goskino Belgoskino, c / cr 'Lenfilm'. He died in Leningrad.
