Leiji Matsumoto

Leiji Matsumoto (real name - Akira Matsumoto, p. 25/01/1938, Kurume, Fukuoka nearby town of) - one of the founders of the modern romantic and fantastic Shе?nen manga.

For the first time his works were published in 1953, when he was 15 years old. It was a manga series "Journey bees" [Mitsubachi no Bouken], won the contest magazine "Manga Shounen".

Later he worked for a long time creating manga for girls, not having achieved, however, in this genre considerable success. That's when he coined the nickname "Leiji" (more correctly - Reiji, but he prefers to write a "L") - "Warrior Zero". Effect shе?jo style is clearly seen in the later works of Matsumoto.

His first science-fiction manga was manga "Seksaroid" [Sexaroid] (1968), and his first notable work - manga, "I-man" [Otoko Oidon] (1970) about the adventures of a young student.

Truly, he became known in 1974 when it began publishing the manga "Space Cruiser Yamato" [Uchuu Senkan Yamato] (1974-1980), in the same year picturized. It was followed by series "Space Pirate Captain Harlok" [Uchuu Kaizoku Captain Harlock] (1977-1980), "Galaxy Express 999" [Ginga Tetsudou 999] (1977 -), "Queen Millennia" [Sennin Jo-ou] and some other. Most of them were filmed. It was also filmed several of his short manga stories from the book "For the helm" [The Cockpit] (1973 -).

He is currently engaged in research capabilities of modern computer technology and thinking about the continuation of their old serials in 3D-graphics.

In 2001, Matsumoto began to produce animated videos for songs from the album "Discovery" of French electronic music group "Daft Punk". It is assumed that, being gathered together, these videos will make a new full-length musical film Matsumoto and "Daft Punk".

Most of all, Matsumoto, known as the creator of space epics, actively using the great ships of unusual design. Artistic world Matsumoto was under the strong influence of late romanticism, which gave his writings a special attraction for young people, not just for boys but for girls. Also on his work greatly influenced the experience associated with military deprivations and the capitulation of Japan in the years of his childhood.

Probably from all the major creators of manga and anime is Matsumoto suffered defeat in the war most acute (he was born to a Japanese military officer). Not taking the form of radical nationalism or revenge, these feelings become for him an excuse to fight the evil and condemning all forms of political violence.
