SCHOTTKY Walter
(23.07.1886 - 04.03.1976)

Born in Zurich (Switzerland), studied at the University of Berlin, where in 1912 he received his Ph.D..

In 1913 - 1914 he. discovered the phenomenon of increasing the saturation current under the influence of the external accelerating electric field (Schottky effect), and developed a theory of this effect.
In 1915 he invented an electronic lamp with a screen mesh.
In 1916 - 1919 he. Schottky lectured at the University of Wц?rzburg, and in 1923 - 1927 he. became a professor at the University of Rostock.
. Since 1927, he again worked in the laboratory of Siemens and Halske.
. In 1930, considered the vacant sites of the crystal lattice, the uncorrected atom in the interstitial (Schottky defects).
. In 1939 he investigated the Schottky potential barrier arising in the contact layer of semiconductor-metal, and then developed the theory of semiconductor diodes with the barrier (Schottky diodes and Schottky barrier diodes).

. Schottky suggested that the conduction mechanism in semiconductors
. He has made a great contribution to the study of processes occurring in electron tubes and semiconductors. Research Schottky refer to solid state physics, thermodynamics, statistics, electronics and semiconductor physics.
