Buchner, Georg (Bchner, Georg) (1813-1837), German writer, creator of realistic drama.
Born October 17, 1813 at Darmstadt. He studied medicine, history and philosophy at the universities of Strasbourg and Giessen. In early 1836 away from politics and continued his education in Switzerland. Also in 1836 began to lecture on anatomy in the University of Zurich, a few months later contracted typhus and died February 19, 1837.

Bц?chner wrote only three dramatic works and one prose piece, but they are among the most original works of German literature. The most significant of his play, "The Death of Danton" (Dantons Tod, 1835) - a dramatic portrait of one of the central figures of the French Revolution, Danton. Innovative in form, "Danton's Death" consists of individual scenes, which follow each other philosophical controversy, melancholy meditation and political rhetoric. Second piece Buchner, "Woyzeck" (Woyzeck, 1837), includes 27 scenes, telling us about real historical events and the sad life of a soldier. Passive by nature, always at the mercy of circumstances, Woyzeck defenseless as to outside oppression, and to his own vague passion. Opera "Wozzeck" (1925) Austrian composer A. Berg written in the text Buchner.

In two other works, comedy, Leonce and Lena "(Leonce und Lena, publ. 1839) and the novella "Lenz" (Lenz, publ. 1839), Buchner pessimism expressed with even greater force. Lenz is read as an example of socio-psychological realist prose. Effect Buchner very significantly in the drama of such writers as Fr.Vedekind, G. Hauptmann and Brecht.
