Biography EE CUMMINGS
CUMMINGS E.E. (Cummings EE) (1894-1962), American poet, painter. Disregarding contemporary collectivist society, committed to all individual, with the publication of poems Cummings resorted to a special pattern of the stanza typography and unusual punctuation. For the same rebellious impulses abandoned capital letters when writing the name (he signed 'e.e.kammings'). He wrote plays, criticism, wrote a novel, published a diary of travel impressions. As an artist, distinguished by a skillful drawing, reached a sufficiently high reputation in the professional environment. After a brief infatuation returned to abstract painting still lifes, portraits and landscapes.

Edward Estlin Cummings was born Oct. 14, 1894 in Cambridge (pc. Mass.). In 1911 entered Harvard University, where in 1916 received a master's degree. A year later, consisting of volunteer medical corps in France, was arrested and sent to prison camp. It was found that Cummings on the basis of his correspondence was accused of treason against France, it is absolutely baseless accusation cost him several months of detention. The prison experience reflected in the "enormous row" (The Enormous Room, 1922), a lyrical story set c clearly delineated characters. For his alma mater, Cummings returned in 1952, occupied the chair of professor of poetry, bearing the name of Charles E. Norton (1827-1908). In 1957 he was awarded the Bollingenskaya Prize for poetry. Cummings died in Conway (pc. New Hampshire), September 3, 1962.

The success of the novel "The Great Chamber" predetermined interest to the first poetry collection Cummings' Tulips and chimney "(Tulips and Chimneys, 1923). This book has identified its main theme: stupidity and ugliness of mass man, opposed to the wisdom and beauty. Finding ways to translate this theme Cummings paid much attention to the syntactic deformations, resorted to the use of jargon and catchy advertising lexicon, interspersed traditional strophic form of vers libre. He demonstrates many techniques mockery of the modern world, . with his executioners and victims, . in the books "Tulips and chimney" (Tulips and Chimneys, . 1923), . "XLI poem" (XLI Poems, . 1925), . "equals 5" (is 5, . 1926), . "Viva" (ViVa, . 1931), . "No Thanks" (No Thanks, . 1935), . And in the irony, and the glorification of Cummings is a singer of individuality - in the plays "Him" (him, 1927), "Tom" (Tom, 1935) and "Santa Claus" (Santa Claus, 1946), a travel diary of the Soviet Union Eimi (Greek. 'I am', 1933), in the Norton lectures at Harvard, published a book and then I (i, 1953) with the provocative subtitle of six antilektsy (six nonlectures). In 1972 came his "Collected Poems", 1913-1962 (Complete Poems, 1913-1962).
