Biography Edgar Lee Masters
Masters, Edgar Lee (Masters, Edgar Lee) (1869-1950), American writer. Born August 23, 1869 in Garnett (pc. Kansas). From 1891 for several years practiced law, but devoted himself to literary work. Author of almost 50 books, including poetry, drama, novels and autobiography "In the streets of Spoon-Rivera" (Across Spoon River, 1936), but fame has brought him the book "Spoon River Anthology" (Spoon River Anthology, 1915). Masters considered himself a champion of tradition, in his view, the devotees in the 20. Not without interest and less well-known book "New World" (The New World, 1937) - described in verse the history of America. The most successful poems Masters conditioned in the form of rough vers libre. Author of biographical books "V. Lindsay" (Vachel Lindsay, 1935), "Mark Twain" (Mark Twain, 1938), "Lincoln as a man" (Lincoln, the man, 1931), written in a polemic with the multi-volume biography K. Sandberg.
Masters died in Melrose Park (pc. Pennsylvania) 5 May 1950.
