Born April 5, 1950 in the village Molostova Slavkov (now Porkhov) district of the Pskov region in a peasant family, Russian.
In 1967 - 68 studied at the Leningrad Metallurgical College (r. Kolpino). Gone from the college without completing training.
In 1969 - an underground miner at the mine surveying bureau of. S. M. Kirov (r. Shales).
In 1974 he graduated from the journalism faculty of Leningrad State University (LSU).
Since 1974 works in Slantsy local newspaper "The Banner of Labor" correspondent, executive secretary, deputy editor of the newspaper. Since May 1979 - editor of the Banner of Labor.
