Kondakova graduated from the Bauman Institute in 1980. After graduating in 1980,
Kondakova started working in the RSA 'energy' of the implementation of scientific projects, experiments, and began research work. In 1989 she was selected as a candidate for the astronauts predriyatiem Energy and sent to the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in order to start a course of general space training. Elena Kondakova flew as a specialist on board STS-84 'Space Shuttle' 15-24 May 1997. This is the sixth Shuttle flight to the space station "Mir".
