Biography George Raft (George Raft)
born September 27, 1895 in New York (New York, USA). At age 13 he left home, tried many professions - from dancer to the taxi driver, had connections with the underworld of New York. In the late 1920's Raft goes to Hollywood, where he soon became well-known actor. After the movie "Scarface" (1932) to Rafto "stuck" image of the gangster-hero. I must say, these roles he succeeded most of all, and nearly two decades, the actor met with success, but then his popularity began to droop. In mid-1950 George Raft starred in the TV series "I - the law", but was unsuccessful TV series, proved to be a vain attempt to withdraw in Europe. In 1959, the U.S. went out on the screens Billy Wilder film "Some Like It Hot", known in the domestic box office as "Some Like It Hot". Role of Colombo "White Socks", brilliantly played Raft, was in some sense, a parody of all the previous work of the actor. Since the mid 1960's Raft more rarely appears on the screen, playing mostly bit parts. It is worth mentioning that the actor owned several gambling houses, including those in Britain and in Cuba (before coming to power of Fidel Castro). George Raft died in Los Angeles on Nov. 27, 1980.
