Blonsky, Pavel Petrovich

(1884-1941)
Born in Kiev, 14 (26) May 1884. He graduated from the historical-philological faculty of Kiev University. Engaged in ancient philosophy, especially Platonism. A student Chelpanov. Master's thesis is devoted to creativity Blonskii Dam. In Kiev, he publishes historical and philosophical research: The problem of reality in Berkeley; ethical problem with Ed.Gartmana etc.. In 1913, Blonsky became assistant professor at Moscow University. In addition to the historical and philosophical studies, Blonsky much attention to the problems of psychology and pedagogy, teaching and pedagogical discipline in the university Shanyavsky. At one time he was close to the SR, then (after the February Revolution) closer to the Bolsheviks. In his articles of this period Blonsky considered the possibility of development of the education system under socialism (Why do all workers must be socialists, school and social system). Despite the radical change in outlook (from Plato and Plotinus to Marxism), Blonsky remained a brilliant historian of philosophy, able to understand and appreciate the important ideas and positions, including those it does not close. Since 1919, Blonsky leads the Moscow Academy of Public Education. In 1930-1941 worked at the Institute of Psychology, a lot of effort spent on the development of the theory of pedology (they, in particular, has developed a genetic theory of memory). These scientific studies Blonskii were suspended after the ban pedology in 1930. Blonsky died in Moscow on Feb. 15, 1941.
